At 11:30 am on a cold and drizzly Saturday (15th October 2011) about 20 downhill skateboarders converged on the top of Redhill near Simons Town, Western Cape for the free race organized through the Cape Town Fizzers Facebook Group.
A few runs were done down Redhill itself, after which the riders all met at the approach road to the Navel Base on top of Redhill. Fortunately the drizzle ended and the road dried out, time for the bombing to begin! The guys and Gabi, the only girl, then headed to the top for the First of three runs. With a mild head wind blowing, speeds achieved weren’t too hectic, but the runs remained fast enough to be fun.
The final positions were decided by taking the average finishing position of the 3 runs. The results were as follows:
1st: Nick Hook
2nd: James Burgess
3rd: Mike Upham
4th: Raoul van den Berg
5th: Anton Pratt
6th: Adam Lincoln-Lewis
7th: Matt Arderne
8th: Paul Du Plessis
Many thanks to the organizers and sponsors for the day: Gabi from Cape Town Fizzers and her crew, and the sponsors for the days prizes – Monster Energy drink for drinks and calendars and Fat Ant for some bushings.
The riders ended off the day with a light carving session at the road next to Reddam School.
