Fair Cape always brings its new challenges and this year, lots of new riders came out to brave the deceptively fast hill situated in the beautiful hills surrounding the Fair Cape dairy farm.

One of those first time riders came and outshone the rest, his name is Wesley Travill. This 20 year old, proudly Capetonian racer only started racing in 2010 after seeing some other riders bombing hills in Cape Town. Once the addiction kicked in, Wesley started perfecting his style. He believes you need a good balance between sliding and speed abilities, “ You need to learn both ways, there is nothing better than bombing down a straight and then busting a slide into a left or a right hand corner.”

Wesley finds all the inner city hills his favourite with a special interest in Camps Bay Drive, expressing the ultimate adrenaline rush he gets from it. He rides locally made Alpha Longboards with a classic set up of Randal II 180′s, 76mm ABEC 11 Big Zigs, Super Reds bearings and South Africa’s Fat Ant bushings.

Wesley won himself a set of Cult Death Ray wheels for being the best performing first time racer at Fair Cape. First Nature will be sponsoring this award again at the KING OF THE FORT Schanskop Downhill Challenge 2011. The Schanskop road is perfect for newbs and we are expecting a lot of first time racers, competition will be tough. See you there on 18 and 19 June 2011.
