Day one started out with a good turn out of riders with some new faces and the usual. Riders from Joburg and East London came down to race Fair Cape. On Saturday there was an easterly wind blowing from the side which made riding a bit tricky as the wind pushed the riders around. The day was fast but the wind was not perfect, Sundays forecast was for a Southerly a near perfect wind. In qualifies Matt Arderne took the fastest time down FC in Skateboard, Russell Naude took the fastest time with both classic and street luge. Nick Hook skated that fastest time in the junior skateboard category.

Sunday the weather was perfect, wind was mellow for most of the day. Fair cape has very smooth tar and when the conditions are right like a moderate southerly wind, makes it a fun fast hill to race on.

Riders squeezed in as many rides before the afternoons race. In the meantime Stretch – the Red Bull van manned by Tino, positioned itself on the last right in front of a growing crowd. As the afternoon rolled in the wind picked up, racing was going to be fast. First up was classic luge then street luge,Russell Naude held off the pack in both categories to take the win. Nikki Caromba from Joburg took 3rd and husband Marco Caromba took 2nd in classic luge. Marco took 3rd and Glen Phillips 2nd in street luge.

In the junior skateboard finals Nick Hook the number one qualifier on Saturday kept his form to win the junior category. In the open skateboard finals Matt Arderne had the lead coming into the last right, he held his line into the final straight with Murray Chandler close behind, Murray tried to take Matt over the rough patch but Matt held his lead to win the open skateboard finals. Glen Phillips came in at 3rd and Raoul Van Den Berg took 4th place.

All in all it was a great weekend with plenty of speed and stoke with everyone enjoying themselves. SAGRA would like to thank everyone involved with making Fair Cape an awesome event, thanks to Red Bull, Baboon Longboards, First Nature and Fair Cape Dairies.
